It is no secret that the New York Knicks have been struggling this year, especially the way they have lost almost every close game which really hinders their confidence at times. Their overall performance is definitely surprising, especially after the organization made the move to hire one of the greatest basketball minds alive in Phil Jackson.
Jackson, who is now the President of Basketball Operations, had some thoughts as to why the Knicks have been performing so poorly. According to ESPN, Jackson said, “It’s about a loser’s mentality. It’s not about the skill or the talent level.” Jackson does have a valid point, as the majority of the Knicks’ losses have been by less than 10 points.
Per ESPN, Jackson continued to say, “Obviously, we’re disappointed. I think guys understand what we’re trying to do. Hopefully, they’re getting to be more compliant. There’s some resistance to discipline and order and culture change and things like that. I will call it a crucible for what we’re going through here. The process, maybe the heat, is going to refine some of the stuff so that we come out and be a pretty good team after all is said and done.”
The Knicks have the same amount of losses as the 76ers who are content on ‘tanking’ to get a high draft pick. Perhaps it is time the Knicks realize that it might be easier to just give up this season in hopes of drafting highly touted big man Jahlil Okafor, someone the Knicks could really use on their team. Only time will tell. Do you think the Knicks should tank this season?
