Search crews found the body of a man amid the debris from a small plane that crashed off the coast of the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens on Wednesday night, said the authorities.
A witness reported seeing the plane go down in the water near Breezy Point on the tip of the peninsula, said the New York Fire Department.
Quickly after the report was made, crews found parts of a plane floating about 1.5 miles from the Atlantic coast, according to the Police Department. The man’s body was discovered in the water later in the night, a police spokesman said. No information was available on survivors, according to NYTimes.
Officials did not identify the man and are unsure if he was a pilot or a passenger on the plane.
Spokeswoman Arlene Salacthe received no reports of any missing aircraft in the area.
