If you were an ice skater in the 90s, there’s a chance you wanted to wake up one morning and just be Michelle Kwan. While it’s likely that didn’t happen for you, here’s some Kwan news that might put a smile on your face.
According to The New York Times, the two-time Olympic figure skating champion is throwing her political support behind Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2016 Presidential Election. This gives Clinton the celebrity shine factor, but Kwan is actually one of the best celebrities to support her.
Kwan is no political novice. Back in 2006, she was named a public diplomatic envoy for the State Department’s Education and Cultural Affairs Program. In 2011, she finished her graduate studies at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Turns out there’s way, way more to Kwan than landing a triple axle.
Three years ago, Kwan married Clay Pell, who was a White House staffer at the time. Last year, when Pell ran for governor in Rhode Island, Kwan was extremely active in his campaign. She stressed that Pell would be committed to women’s rights in the work place and in the home. Clinton, who stands for very similar ideals, is lucky to have Kwan on her side.
Kwan is slated to volunteer for Clinton’s campaign at her headquarters in Brooklyn.
