NIPSEY HUSSLE MURDER UPDATE, Monday 3:15pm EST: An anonymous law enforcement source tells The Hot Zone that LAPD homicide detectives are pursuing a suspect known personally by Nipsey Hussle. The 33-year-old artist was fatally shot on Sunday. The LAPD says the suspect is “in their sights” but was not in custody as of Monday morning.
The Grammy-nominated rapper, Nipsey Hussle (real name Ermias Ashgedom), was shot and killed outside of his clothing store in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon. There is no one in custody yet, but police authorities believe it to be gang-related. It is known that Nipsey had ties to the crips gang but had collaborated with other artists in the past affiliated with opposite gang rival, bloods. Involvement with gangs seemed like the past for Nipsey who had now, several entrepreneurial projects going on.
Besides his store, Nipsey also made around $100,000 selling his mixtape, was an investor in Vector90 (co-working space and STEM center in Crenshaw), Co-owner of a strip mall, and part of a team that developed an open-air museum devoted to honoring African-American artistic achievement.
Besides his financial and community endeavors, Nipsey was the father of a son and a daughter, and also a husband to Lauren London. The two had been together for 5 years. Support, tributes, and prayers have been lifted up to the family, as well as pleas for the end of senseless violence.
We will continue to share the updates the police give us, as far as catching the perpetrator. Stay tuned in
