Rosie O’Donnell felt relief when her 17-year-old daughter, Chelsea, was found after having been missing for a week. But that feeling quickly turned sour after discovering her daughter was found with an alleged heroin dealer she had met on Tinder.
Chelsea suffers from mental illness and had not been taking her medication before she went missing for a full week. The daughter of the well-known comedian was discovered in New Jersey with her newly found Tinder match, Steve Sheerer. The young girl along with the 25-year old man, who was arrested in 2012 for heroin possession with intent to distribute and child endangerment, were found in the Sheerer’s home.
“She is 17 and he is an [alleged] drug dealer, they met online, on Tinder. Chelsea is mentally ill, it is a parent’s worst nightmare,” a source told Page Six. “Rosie is relieved that Chelsea is back but is frightened for her daughter, she is extremely upset that Chelsea was with this guy. He’s 25, a heroin dealer who lives with his mother.”
Daily Mail Online reported that Sheerer told the police, at first, that Chelsea was not with him or at his home, but police searched the home anyway, not believing him. Chelsea was found huddled in the attic of his home with her therapy dog, Bear.
Police found Chelsea by tracking her through her burner phone and confirm that there is no evidence that she and Sheerer had any sexual contact or committed any crime.
“I wouldn’t say he was a boyfriend, more of an acquaintance,” Patrolman Nicholas Dapuzzo said. “She stayed there a few nights and she had stayed elsewhere, but she wouldn’t tell me where. I couldn’t say they were sexually involved. But they met though Tinder sometime in July.”
Dapuzzo also stated that Chelsea said she didn’t want to go home when they found her, and she said she was “fine.”
O’Donnell, who has been active on social media asking for help and providing updates to her followers, took to Twitter on Wednesday, after Chelsea was found, to tweet a story form a New Jersey news outlet about Sheer’s 2012 arrest. The story explained that Sheerer had been stopped while in a car with a woman in possession of heroin. Her two children, ages 1 and 3, were in the back seat of the car. Sheerer’s home was searched after he was pulled over, and police found heroin, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia, according to the report.
Despite this terrifying incident, Chelsea is safe with her mother and turns 18 next week.
