A second woman has been mysteriously murdered while jogging in the Northeast.
Recently, 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte was sexually assaulted and killed while jogging near her mother’s home in Princeton, Mass. Once her body was found, authorities saw that her hands, feet and head had been burned.
Marcotte’s death came nearly one week after the similar death of 30-year-old Karina Vetrano from New York City, who was also sexually assaulted and strangled while on a jog.
Officials are now investigating any possible links between the two similar deaths.
“We understand there are similarities,” Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said in a press conference, according to The New York Post. “We’re approaching this from every angle. We’re fairly early in this investigation.”
Marcotte was an account manager at Google in New York City who will be remembered for her smile and passion.
“Vanessa Marcotte was a much loved member of the Google team, working in our New York office for the last year and a half and known for her ubiquitous smile, passion for volunteer work and love of Boston sports. We are deeply shocked and saddened, and our thoughts are with her family and friends,” a Google representative told ABC News.
No arrests have been made in either case just yet.
