The younger Williams sister, Serena, has officially given birth to her first child, a baby girl! Serena, 35, gave birth on Friday September 1 in Palm Beach, Florida. She is engaged to Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian.
In April, the tennis champion accidentally announced her pregnancy via Snapchat. She then posted to Instagram, showing off a slight baby bump in a selfie and announcing that she was 20 weeks along.
Early in August, she appeared in a Vanity Fair photo shoot and article featuring her pregnancy. “I don’t know what to do with a baby,” she confided. “I have nothing…I’ve done absolutely nothing for the baby room.”
In that article, she also revealed that she was so shocked when she found out she might be pregnant that she took six pregnancy tests just to be sure.
She said she “did a double take” and her “heart dropped.”
She and Ohanian, 34, announced that they were engaged in December of last year but have not yet set a wedding date.
Serena’s older sister and frequent tennis partner Venus told reporters that she is “super excited” about becoming an aunt. Venus, 37, had just won the third-round match against Greek player Maria Sakkari. She added that “words can’t describe” how she was feeling.
She reportedly spoke to Serena before her match and that the conversation was “motivational.” The two reportedly “always talk,” according to Venus.
Ohanian reportedly was not a tennis fan until he met Serena. The pair start ating in October of 2015.
Congratulations to Serena and Alexis!
