A federal investigator-turned-performer mocked Michael Brown’s death in a shocking song at a California Elks Lodge. Reports state that Gary Fishell performed during a charity event at Glendale lodge. He sang a rendition of “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,” and said Mike Brown for the main character of the song.
The lyrics (with Fishell’s changes) were:
“And Michael looked like some old Swiss cheese/His brain was splattered on the floor/And he’s dead, dead Michael Brown/Deadest man in the whole damn town/His whole life’s long gone/Deader than a road kill dog”.
The attendess, feloow officers, seemed unbothered by his renditon. Only one cop was horrified and video taped the performance. That officer leaked the footage to media outlets.
Retired Los Angeles police officer Joe Myers, hired Fishell and organized the fundraiser. He said “This is America. We can say what we want. This is a free America”. Fishell’s lawyer stated “the singer now understands that the song was off color and in poor taste” but Fishell thought the audience would like the rendition.
