Anton Yelchin, the 27-year-old actor, who died in a freak accident Sunday morning, may have died concerning a flaw in his Jeep Grand Cherokee. He was found pinned against the gate of his home by the 5,000 pound Jeep in Studio City, California.
Investigators say that his Jeep was left in neutral, rolled down Yelchin’s driveway, and slammed into Yelchin. It is believed that the Jeep’s design is to blame for the young actor’s death, since the Jeep was recalled in April.
The confusing gear stick would spring back into the same position after being shifted, and drivers could not tell whether the car was in park or neutral at first glance. The weird gear stick was blamed for 212 car crashes, 308 property damages, and 41 injuries. Now 1 death have been included, and that is the death of the young “Star Trek” actor.
The Jeep being the cause of death is not confirmed yet, but Yelchin’s Jeep was manufactured between July 16, 2012 to December 22, 2015, which was the time period of Jeeps that were supposed to be recalled.
Yelchin’s next film will be Star Trek Beyond in theaters next month.
