On Sunday evening a Louisiana State Trooper was shot at by the driver of a pickup truck that was reported to have been driving erratically and was suspected to have been under some kind of influence. It is reported that Steven Vincent was shot in the head by the suspect, but has fortunately been placed in stable condition despite the critical injuries he sustained in the shooting.
The driver and gunman, who has been identified as 54-year-old Kevin Daigle, was then taken down by passing motorists on the road shortly after the incident, using the trooper’s handcuffs to detain him. Sergeant James Anderson expressed his gratitude for the Samaritans saying,”We’re so thankful for them. They arrived on scene and called for assistance for the trooper.”
It is reported that the motorists used Vincent’s radio to report the incident and provided him with first aid until help arrived and he was airlifted to a local hospital.
Daigle has also been placed in the hospital, after fighting with the men who detained him, sustaining only minor injuries and bruises. He remains in police custody and is expected to be charged with the attempted murder of an officer.
Vincent is a 13-year-veteran with the force and though he is in stable condition, prayers for him and his family have been requested during this frightening and difficult time.
