The scandal involving Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle continues, as new reports have emerged claiming that Fogle paid for sex with a 16-year-old girl he found on Craigslist. Needless to say, Subway will be searching for a new, less perverted face for the franchise.
This news surfaces just a little less than a month after authorities raided Fogle’s home in search of incriminating evidence in a child pornography case involving the former director of Fogle’s charity organization. After Fogle announced that he would be cutting all ties with his former executive, Russell Taylor, following his arrest, the investigation seemed more like protocol and the renowned sandwich icon would come out smelling like roses.
However, after further investigation was conducted, text messages from 2008 were allegedly retrieved, containing exchanges between Fogle and a former Subway employee, in which Fogle revealed to the woman that he paid for sex with a girl on Craigslist, while also encouraging the employee to prostitute herself on the website so he could watch her. Um, creep much? The former employee, who has not been identified in reports, was apparently involved in a relationship with Fogle during this time, which makes the situation no less forgivable.
The messages, which were retrieved by the FBI after subpoenaing an affidavit, are a little disturbing to say the very least. The employee responds to one of Fogle’s messaging saying, “is this the same website you found that 16-year-old girl that you f–ked. . . .I still can’t believe you only paid $100 for her.”
Despite her rather lewd response, the woman reportedly grew uncomfortable with her and Fogle’s relationship, and is also claiming that she reported the incident to Subway, who did nothing about it. Meanwhile, Subway claims they have no such complaint on record. However, according to Business Insider, Subway has severed its relationship with Fogle and erased his name from anything associated with the franchise. Ouch.
One thing is for certain. Fogle’s “career” is over, and whether or not Subway will reap the disadvantages of this scandal is yet to be determined, but I know I’ll be eating at Quiznos from now on!
