Empire‘s Taraji P. Henson recently sat down with TV show host and comedian Steve Harvey and, of course, they eventually approached the hot topic: her relationship status.
Henson pretended, jokingly, to be nervous, before she dove in.
“You don’t get claimed until you claim me! Period,” the 44-year-old actress declared. “You don’t get to say ‘I dated Taraji P. Henson.’ You don’t get to go on a carpet and share that part of my life with me, because you know what? Now, today, with all of this social media, it’s not private. I have a son; I don’t want him to be like, ‘Oh, Mom dated this one, she dated that one…!'”
“If you’re not serious, don’t even open your mouth. Shake my hand and keep it movin’,” she said.
Henson has been vocal in the past about wanting someone who is financially secure, an idea that has been historically problematic whenever women expressed it.
However, she’s perfectly entitled to have her standards. She’s excelling in her career, probably doing very well for herself financially–so why shouldn’t she want a partner with the same aspirations?
