This may be the best news we’ve heard all week! Disney is reportedly working on a third Princess Diaries film. Please tell us that our favorite royals, Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, are coming back!

The films, based on Meg Cabot’s book series (which has nine more books, by the way), featured Hathaway as the awkward Mia Thermopolis who finds out that her grandmother, played by Andrews, is the queen of Genovia.

Of course, if her grandmother is the queen and her deceased father is the heir to the throne, that makes Mia…a princess.

After the first two films were made, Hathaway made it clear that she wanted to break away from her identity as Princess Mia. Even Andrews acknowledged back in 2012 that she would love to take part in future Princess Diaries films, but that she “would think they’ll stay with just the two [films] because of Annie.”

Unfortunately these previous statements make us skeptical of the two stars’ returns to the film series, but who knows? The second film was made all the way back in 2004, so maybe a decade is enough time for Hathaway to change her mind!

After all, she has played so many new roles since her breakout as Princess Mia in 2001, even winning several awards in 2013 for her performance as Fantine in Les Miserables. Hathaway’s stardom has definitely expanded beyond her Princess Diaries days.

However, recent reports indicate that Disney plans on completely rebooting the series, meaning that the return of the previous films’ two stars isn’t mandatory.

But if we’re being honest, we are hoping that Hathaway has some sort of soft spot for the film series that launched her career.

So, what do you think? Are you as excited for this film as we are?!
