“The Shield” actor, Michael Jace, called 911 and told the police “I shot my wife” after gunning down his 40-year-old partner at the couple’s LA home on Monday. To make matters worse, their young children were present.
According to police sources who spoke to TMZ, Michael called 911 and confessed to shooting his wife, April at 8:30pm. The couple’s two children, who are both under 10 years old, witnessed the shooting and were very shaken up from the tragedy. April was pronounced dead at the scene. The couple celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary last June.
The authorities took the children to the police station. Prior to Michael’s phone call, neighbors had already called the police and stated that they heard shots being fired inside the property. The children were placed in protective custody until a CPS arrived. Authorities were appalled that CPS took 4 hours to get to the station, considering the seriousness of the event.
LAPD confirmed that Michael was taken into custody and booked for the murder of his wife. According to TMZ, he remained on the phone as instructed by dispatchers until LAPD officers arrived. When officers entered the house they found April, dead from gunshot wounds.
According to the Los Angeles Times, detectives with the 77th division have yet to determine whether the shooting was an accident or a homicide. Officer Sara Faden told the newspaper, “It looks to have started as a domestic-related incident.”
Michael is best known for portraying a police officer struggling with his sexuality on FX cop drama The Shield. His bail has been set at $1million.
