29-year-old Omar Mateen, who committed the mass murder at the gay nightclub, Pulse, last weekend texted his wife during the massacre. His mother contacted his wife, Noor Salman, concerned about his whereabouts and that is when Salman texted Mateen. The conversation pretty much was:
Salman: “Where are you?”
Mateen: “Do you see what’s happening?”
Salman: “No”
Mateen: “I love you babe.”
The texting ended, but Salman did call him afterwards, in which he did not pick up. Investigators have not revealed if Salman called the police at any point during the incident. If not, then her suspicion of knowing about the shooting before it happened will be questioned by authorities.
There is video evidence of her and Mateen buying ammunition days before the attack, but more investigating needs to be done to see how much she knew about the shooting. If she did know about the shooting, under federal law, she is as guilty as her husband. She would be charged with 49 counts of murder, and other possible charges including, aiding and abetting, being a co-conspirator, or lying to federal investigators.
