It looks like the backlash against Iggy Azalea hasn’t slowed down. In the past the Australian rapper has been criticized heavily by the Hip Hop community and music fans. Now thousands are signing a petition to remove one of the singer’s awards.
The rapper recently won Top Rap Song at the 2015 Billboard Awards and one Tennessee resident named Christian Ferguson was not happy. He launched a petition on Change.org last week stating that Iggy was ineligible for the award for her hit song ‘Fancy’ because it was released last February. The rapper beat out big stars like Big Sean and Nicki Minaj in the category. Ferguson wrote “The eligibility time period for nominations is March 10th, 2014 through March 2015. “Fancy” was released on February 17th, 2014, nearly a month before the eligibility starting. This is unfair to the other nominees in these category, especially to “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, who most likely would’ve won. Billboard did not follow their own guidelines and should have to recalculate these nominations without “Fancy” as a nominee.”
Though the petition has garnered over 17,000 signatures, Azalea’s song did hit number one on the billboard charts and stayed there for seven weeks in a row, it was named Billboard’s song of the summer and was an overall hit. What do you think Hot Zoners?
