There are two shows that I never miss an episode of. One is The Real Housewives of New Jersey and the other is Mob Wives. I actually discovered Mob Wives accidentally when I was flipping through the channels one day, and ever since then I’ve seen all of the episodes countless times. If you’ve never seen that show you don’t know what you’re missing! There’s drama…bold personalities…great storylines…and more! I’m so caught up in the lives of all of the women on that show, and I’ll be really sad when this show ends one day.
When I found out Big Ang was going to be at Bottomzup Bar and Grill yesterday I was so happy. She’s one of my favorite people on the show (Renee and Drita are my other two favorites), and I just think she has a really fun personality. Besides being on Mob Wives she also co-owns the Drunken Monkey and has written a book called Bigger is Better: Real Life Wisdom from the No-Drama Mama, among other things.
Let’s jump to what it was like to see Big Ang at Bottomzup Bar and Grill, shall we? I got there at around 4 p.m., and I sat down at the bar soon after I arrived. The bartender told me that Big Ang was going to be the guest bartender there, and I thought “How cool! I’m getting a front row seat!” She said that Big Ang would be arriving in a few minutes, so in the meantime I got a good look at my surroundings. I noticed that there were TV screens showing different sports above me, and I’m not a really a sports fan, so I didn’t spend a lot of time watching any of the TV screens.
A little while later I moved to a different part of the bar, and I still had a great view of things. I couldn’t help noticing the awesome music selection while I was sitting there. At one point “All Night Long” was playing, and then I remembered hearing “Simply Irresistible” a few minutes later. I remember my mom and I getting excited whenever we would hear “All Night Long” on the radio when I was little.
Big Ang arrived at around 4:30 p.m., and I saw people take photos of her after she arrived. I already thought she was awesome before I got there, but I thought she was even more awesome when I saw how happily she posed for photos. Before she got behind the bar she spent some time talking to people and eating food. I was sitting a few feet away from her when she was eating.
At around 5:30 p.m. she got behind the bar, and I got a kick out of seeing her pour cocktails. One of the bartenders told me that the cocktails were from Big Ang’s own bar. She looked like she was having a great time, and there were some awesome moments from that part of the evening. I didn’t get to try anything, but I’m sure I will get a chance to one day. By the way, I loved how colorful the cocktails were, and even the straws looked really cool.
While I was watching Big Ang do her thing behind the bar, I struck up a small conversation with the camera guy next to me. At one point he asked me if I’m from America, and I said “I’ve lived in NJ my whole life.” He then said, “For a second I thought you were Irish.” I don’t know what I said to make him think that but it made me laugh. I’ve never had anyone tell me I sounded like I was from another country.
Someone had given Big Ang a bouquet of flowers while she was behind the bar, and I apologize for the quality of this photo, but you can still see the flowers. That’s what I get for not putting the flash up. *chuckle*
Before I move on to my exclusive interview with her, I’ll tell you more about the rest of the night. There were some more moments where she posed for photos, and there were also moments where she was talking to people. She was so warm and delightful, and she happily posed for photos with fans. You could tell why she has a ton of fans. Here are a couple of nice photos I took of her later in the evening.
Interview With Big Ang
I was so happy when I got a chance to interview her, and I remember there was a Justin Timberlake song playing in the background while I was interviewing her. If I remember correctly it was “Mirrors.” I love him, so I wasn’t complaining at all. *smile* Without further ado, here’s my interview with her:
MC: Who do you hang out with the most from the cast of Mob Wives?
Big Ang: After we’re done filming I really don’t hang out with any one of them ’cause I’m so busy with my personal life. I have so much going on…my family…my grandchildren that are coming. I [also] have a bar. We all basically do our own things.
MC: I know that Natalie and Renee don’t exactly get along. Do you think they will ever be friends?
Big Ang: I think it’s gonna work out; I really hope so anyway.
MC: Do you think the viewers want to see them become friends?
Big Ang: I think the viewers would like to see them become friends. The fight already happened and there was a lot of viewers but I think they would like to see everyone get along.
MC: What is something viewers might be surprised to know about you?
Big Ang: I honestly think the viewers really know everything about me because I don’t hide anything. They know exactly what a big heart I have. I don’t hide nothing; I don’t pull no punches. It is what it is.
MC: I know you’re not really part of any drama on the show. How do you manage to stay away from the drama?
Big Ang: I have so much drama in my own life and I can’t deal with other drama.
MC: You co-own the Drunken Monkey. What made you decide to get into the bar business?
Big Ang: I’ve been in the bar business [for] 35 years. I’ve had the Drunken Monkey seven years way before the show.
MC: What is your favorite cocktail?
Big Ang: The Espresso Martini, which I just made two of them [at the bar]. *She gave a big smile after she said that*
MC: I know you wrote a book called Bigger is Better: Real Life Wisdom from the No-Drama Mama, which I found hilarious. Do you have plans to do another book?
Big Ang: I’m hoping to start my cookbook.
MC: Were you funny as a child?
Big Ang: Yeah. You know, being in the bar business for 35 years…being a bartender…you gotta have that personality. They don’t want no drip bartender. You gotta get along with everyone. You gotta have that way about you, [and] not everyone can do it.
MC: I know you have a bar in Miami.
Big Ang: That one didn’t work out.
MC: Are you sad or are you more of a New York girl?
Big Ang: I liked Miami for the show, but I’m a New Yorker.
MC: How does Miami compare to New York?
Big Ang: Hands down [there is] nothing like New York. I don’t think anywhere is like New York…New York is New York.
MC: I know Carla used to be on the show. Do you miss her?
Big Ang: I love Carla [and] I miss her.
MC: Is there anything you can share about the upcoming season?
Big Ang: Well, we didn’t start filming yet so I can’t share anything.
I felt like I was chatting with a good friend when I was talking to her, and I agree that there is no place like New York. If you’re a fan of her, I hope that you do get to meet her one day! Don’t forget to watch out for her cookbook, and pick up her first book if you haven’t already. Her personality shines in the book, and I know you will love it!
Here’s also a video of her making a Bloody Mary.
