On Christmas, Philadelphia transit police officers Sgt. Daniel Caban and Officer Darrell James, helped a mom deliver a baby on the train.
Around 6 p.m. at Markets Street Station, the officers guided the woman through her delivery and even unwrapped the umbilical cord from the baby’s neck. James said “Everything just happened so quick, but it was amazing.”
Mother and baby were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital and are doing great.
James called the birth a blessing. Caban said helping to bring a new life into the world was a gift all its own, “I had already opened all my presents. I didn’t know I had another one waiting for me around 5:53 this afternoon.”
Christmas blessing indeed!
