Two arrests have been made in the murder of NBA star Dwyane Wade’s cousin, Nykea Aldridge.
As previously reported, Aldridge was pushing her infant child in a stroller Friday afternoon in Chicago, when she was fatally shot in both her arm and head. She was pronounced dead 45 minutes later in the hospital.
According to CNN, Chicago police have now arrested brothers Darwin Sorrells, 26, and Derren Sorrells, 22, who are both gang members. They were both charged with first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder. Darwin Sorrells, specifically, was also charged with a count of criminal trespass.
The brothers began shooting after one of them “exchanged looks” with a driver who was dropping off women in the city he had picked up in the suburbs. The driver was the target of their bullets, but Aldridge, tragically, was caught in the crossfire.
Both of the brothers were out on parole for gun convictions. They are being held without bond.
Since the incident, Wade sent out a tweet, where he called for an end to these senseless shootings.
“RIP Nykea Aldridge… #EnoughIsEnough,” the NBA star tweeted on Saturday.

Wade is correct that these shooting have got to stop. Unfortunately, members of Congress and Senate refuse to hear out those calling for stricter gun laws, because they feel as though these laws would violate the Second Amendment. Not many are calling for a ban of all guns, just stricter gun laws which would make it difficult for those with mental health issues or are on the terror watch list to obtain them.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Aldridge’s and Wade’s family and friends during this difficult time.
