A group of hackers have leaked the drug testing information of several high-profile U.S. athletes.
According to ABC News, the Russian hacking group Fancy Bears leaked the records of “Therapeutic Use Exemptions,” meaning that the athletes in this group, who tested positive for specific drugs, are still permitted to use them due to a medical need.
One of the athletes who was found to have tested positive in these leaks was four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles. The U.S. gymnast tested positive for the ADHD drug methylphenidate, which is commonly known as Ritalin, on four separate occasions.
However, Biles’s taking of the drug was completely legal, since the International Gymnastics Federation previously approved her to do so.
Biles addressed the leak in a tweet on Tuesday, where she revealed that she has had ADHD and taken medication for it since she was a child.
“I have ADHD and I have taken medicine for it since I was a kid,” she explained. “Please know, I believe in clean sport, have always followed the rules, and will continue to do so as fair play is critical to sport and is very important to me.”

She later tweeted, “Having ADHD, and taking medicine for it is nothing to be ashamed of nothing that I’m afraid to let people know.”

Biles was not the only well-known athlete to have her drug tests revealed in the leak. Tennis sisters Serena and Venus Williams tested positive for specific drugs, as well. Like Biles, their uses of these drugs were pre-approved and legal.
