Oh, this is gonna be good!
Not only are the Ghostbusters back for some busting, but this time around the girls will be answering the ghost calls!
Director Paul Feig, known for his work on Bridesmaids and The Heat, confirmed rumors of the revival on Twitter, Wednesday. He also announced that Katie Dippold, whose work includes The Heat and Parks and Recreation, is helping write it.
“It’s official. I’m making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That’s who I’m gonna call,” the director joked.
Feig has made his calls and has gathered Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon to join his team. The director tweeted pictures of all four stars, confirming the cast.
He also tweeted a picture of the brand new Ghostbusters car with the caption “#whattheygonnadrive.”
Ghostbusters is a classic American film about a group of technologically savvy guys who reach another dimension in search for money, but end up releasing evil and having to save New York City from a ghost invasion.
So, basically just your typical fantasy/comedy film.
It was a huge hit at the box office, toping all other films in 1984 (like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom), except for Beverly Hills Cop.
The reboot of the box office best seller will not be so much a sequel, but a “total reboot”, Variety reports. The report also states that the original director of the films (Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II), Ivan Reitman, backed out of directing a third movie in March.
That’s alright because as hilarious as his Ghostbuster films were, we know a Bridesmaids director and Parks and Recreation writer are not likely to let us down.
The original film, which starred Bill Murray and the two writers of the film, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, was not short of hilarious female roles. Sigourey Weaver plays a New Yorker whose apartment becomes haunted in the first film. She delivers some solid comical scenes in the movie, and has announced that her son will be appearing in the upcoming third film.
In addition to the female leads, the film is also set to star Chris Hemsworth, Neil Casey, and Andy Garcia.
