In other words, we’re so excited to announce that Aaron Tveit (Enjolras in the Les Miserables movie) has officially been cast to play Danny Zuko in Fox’s live production of Grease. You know, the role John Travolta made famous in the 1978 movie. We think he’s really going to nail it!
“Playing Danny Zuko is a dream role, and I can’t wait to be a part of all the fun that comes along with performing live on television,” Tveit says.
He joins a cast of extremely talented performers. Julianne Hough is playing female lead, Sandy. This casting comes as no surprise to us. Hough is super talented and super adorable, which is everything Sandy has to be. Vanessa Hudgens is playing tough girl Rizzo, which should be exciting since Hudgens nailed the “Sandy” archetype as Gabriella in High School Musical. Finally, Carlos PenaVega (of Big Time Rush fame) is playing Danny’s best friend, Kenicke.
Broadway fans know Tveit not just for his role in the Les Mis movie. He was in the musical adaptation of Catch Me If You Can, and he played the controversial role of Gabriel in Next to Normal. Currently, he has a starring role on USA’s Graceland, where he plays FBI agent Mike Warren. TV just can’t get enough of Tveit, and we think that’s because of his talent and because his last name starts with TV. But mostly his talent.
This Grease adaptation is being written by Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins. The executive producer is Marc Platt of hugely successful Broadway hit, Wicked. The special will air on January 31, 2016 only on Fox.
So, how excited are you?
