Sometimes, celebrities do pretty considerate things. Bradley Cooper is one of those celebrities right now. The Academy Award-nominated actor is trying to encourage his fans to register as bone marrow donors. He wants to save another man’s life, and he hopes the man can get many possibilities under his belt.
The man is Anthony Daniels, and he suffers from cancer. In 2011, Daniels was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. At the time, he was a student at Fordham University. Now 24, Daniels has already triumphed over the cancer three times, but it’s back again. Currently, he’s doing radiation to make the tumor on his spine smaller. The last time he went to chemotherapy, it wasn’t effective. Daniels comments that he is in “a lot of pain, but it could be worse.” He looks brave and in good spirits in the pictures he took with Cooper and journalist Robin Roberts, a fellow cancer survivor.
Cooper found Daniels through the Delete Blood Cancer DKMS foundation, and the young man’s story touched the actor. According to Cooper, Daniels has “the gift of positivity and gratitude,” and he “understands the importance of life” that many of us take for granted all the time. Needless to say, Cooper is amazed and inspired by Daniels, and so are we.
Daniels’ greatest hope to survive the cancer is a bone marrow transplant. When Cooper learned this, he wanted to do something. This isn’t surprising. Not only does Cooper seem like just a really good person, but his own father passed away from lung cancer in 2011, the same year Daniels was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Daniels hasn’t found a bone marrow match, but Cooper wants to change that. He is currently pressing his fans to register as bone marrow donors so Daniels can find someone who matches him. To do so, you can register online. A very basic swab kit will be sent to you in the mail, and the return envelopes are already paid for. Like Cooper says, once you hear Daniels’ story, it’s hard not to care for him immediately.
