On Friday, ABC finally aired the long anticipated Diane Sawyer interview with Bruce Jenner. In the interview, Jenner gave an honest and emotionally riveting look into his life and the journey he has had to go through in order to get to this point, openly addressing the fact that he is transgender and looking forward to fully transitioning. The interview drew in over 17 million viewers and became a social media sensation with Jenner related hashtags trending on social media during and after the interview.
Many celebrities took to their social media accounts to express their support for Jenner. Kim Kardashian posted an image of her and Bruce on instagram captioning it “Love is the courage to live the truest, best version of yourself. Bruce is love. I love you Bruce. #ProudDaughter.” Lena Dunham wrote “I think it’s an incredibly powerful and brave move to disclose anything about your gender identity or sexuality in such a judgmental society. The interview is going to mean a lot to a lot of young people.” Lady Gaga tweeted “#BruceJennerABC Now that is bravery. We have the chance to write this moment in history together. Let’s empower people like Bruce all over the world by being loving & not mean.” Miley Cyrus tweeted “I LOOOOVE LOOOVE LOOOVE Bruce Jenner!!!!!!” and Laverne Cox wrote “Sending lots of love and support to #BruceJenner and their family tonight, it is always brave to stand in one’s truth. Congrats darling.” Outpourings of support continue to pour in for Jenner through all forms of social media.
Shortly after the Interview aired, E! Announced that Jenner will take part in an eight part docu-series focusing on transitioning. The episodes will be an hour long and the first episode will air on July 26th at 9pm.
