After rumors swirled about the Met Gala elevator scandal being caused by Jay Z hitting on designer, Rachel Roy, everybody’s been wondering what Damon “Dame” Dash had to say about the incident.
There is a lot of history between Dash and Jay Z who were business partners at Roc-A-Fella Records, but later on had a falling out. Roy, who was an intern at Jay Z’s clothing line Rocawear, began dating Dash. The two fell in love and got married in 2005. However, things didn’t quite work out as planned and they divorced three years later. They have two daughters together.
During an interview, when asked about the elevator video, Dash thought the whole thing was funny. He said Jay shouldn’t be mad, he should just laugh at it. He also pointed out how Jay kept it cool and didn’t make a big deal out of it because he has a reputation to uphold and he’s getting paid corporately.
The former record exec said:
“I thought what was ironic about it was people got to see how he played sh*t off. And how something crazy can happen and four seconds later when it’s cameras on, they act like nothing is going on. I thought that was interesting to see and how good he is at it. If people don’t like what he’s doing, he won’t get that corporate check.”
He also had something to say about the new people Jay Z hangs out with. He claimed if they were still friends when this happened, he would have roasted him and laughed in his face about it because that’s how they got down. As far as Jay’s new friends, Dash said:
“I don’t think his circle is like that, I know who he hangs around…I hope they are all laughing at him, but if they aren’t, he needs to look at his crew.”
When asked if he believed Jay Z was hitting on his ex-wife at the Met Gala, he replied:
“If he was tryna holla at my wife though, that’s kind of f*cked up. But I don’t think he was doing that. That would be bad. That would be dark. That means he really has some resentment, but I would hope that wouldn’t be the case.”
It seems like Dash was secretly happy that his former partner was assaulted by Solange. He tried to act like he was on Jay’s side, while throwing shade at the same time. Also, he still apparently believes he is still married to Roy, by calling her his wife instead of his ex.
What do you think of Dash’s account of the elevator scandal?
