On May 23, Bristol Palin, daughter of 2008 Vice President candidate Sarah Palin, was set to marry 26-year-old Dakota Meyer. Meyer is a recipient of the Medal of Honor, and the pair became engaged earlier in 2015. A few days before the wedding was supposed to take place, Sarah Palin posted that “the celebration [would] not be held” on her Facebook page. The former Alaska Governor did not give a reason as to why the wedding was canceled.
Then, on May 26, the 24-year-old former contestant on Dancing with the Stars turned to her blog to comment on the canceled event. She referred to it as the “elephant in the room,” and while she did not give any specific reasons to their decision not to marry, Palin did write that she feels “God’s plan is greater than anything else.”
This is not the first time Palin’s personal life has been featured in the press. In 2008, when her mother was Senator John McCain’s running mate in the Presidential election, the media turned to the younger Palin about her pregnancy. Palin was 17 at the time. Her son, Tripp, was born in late 2008 to Palin and Levi Johnston, Palin’s previous fiancé. We wish Palin the best of luck.
