Kim Kardashian was only trying to promote her product through social media but is now receiving heavy criticism for it. The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning against the morning sickness drug, Diclegis. Kardashian uses the product and was promoting it but didn’t disclose the legally mandated risks.
Kardashian posted on Instagram: “OMG, Have you heard about this? As you guys know my #morningsickness has been pretty bad. I tried changing things about my lifestyle like my diet, but nothing helped, so I talked to my doctor. He prescribed me #Diclegis. I feel a lot better and most importantly, its been studied and there was no increased risk to my baby.”
The public figure also stated that she’s partnering with the drug manufacturer Duchesnay USA to “raise awareness about treating morning sickness,” as she is experiencing morning sickness with her pregnancy. She later deleted the post.
Division director, Robert Dean, says: “The social media post is false or misleading in that it presents efficacy claims for Diclegis, but fails to communicate any risk information associated with its use and to its material facts.” Dean is against the Duchesnay manufacturer and wants Kardashian to correct her claims. There likely won’t be any legal action taken towards Kardashian regarding this situation, but she’ll probably be more cautious next time she promotes a product.
