Even though it makes mistakes, TLC does know its stuff. If it was smart enough to pull 19 Kids and Counting in the wake of Josh Duggar’s admission to sexually molesting five, underage girls, it’s smart enough to know that lately, viewers aren’t all that vested in the entirety of the show. No, the recent increase in the Duggar family’s popularity was probably caused by the marriages of Jill Duggar Dillard and Jessa Duggar Seewald, the fourth and fifth daughters of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar. The young women are married to Derick Dillard and Ben Seewald, respectively. So, TLC is thinking. What about a spinoff for the quartet of newlyweds?
These are only rumors, and nothing is confirmed. However, a source told Us magazine earlier this week that Josh Duggar would never be part of any filming. The spinoff would focus almost solely on the new Dillards and Seewalds. While some people are glad to hear they might be able to focus on the new married couples, others feel differently. One of those in opposition is June “Mama June” Shannon, whose TLC reality series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was canceled in October 2014 based on child molestation rumors involving Shannon and her husband. She does not believe that the Duggars deserve anymore spotlight because she “never touched her kid,” but according to Josh Duggar, he did sexually molest his siblings. Shannon is threatening to sue TLC if 19 Kids and Counting is not canceled.
TLC has not officially canceled the reality series, but more advertisers have withdrawn from the show. If it returns, there will be no advertisements from Payless ShoeSource, Walgreens pharmacy, or David’s Bridal.
