Game of Thrones – Highlights from The Seventh Series Premier

CAUTION – There are SPOILERS in this post.

Game of Thrones kicked off it’s seventh series on Sunday with ‘Dragonstone’, and it most definitely did not disappoint.

Dragonstone took up where the last season left off, and will leave us talking for days. That’s what Game of Thrones does best. It leaves us in awe at the excellent twists and ultimately the fantastic film-making.

So the opening scene.. do we feel relief? Yes, kind of. It showed, at the start, a throwback to Arya slitting Walder Frey’s throat last season. Dragonstone then showed Walder Frey hosting a dinner for the rest of the Freys.

Wait what? Is he alive?

Nope. That’s when viewers realized the twist that Dragonstone screenwriters David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were creating. Arya has the ability to wear other people’s faces and she just killed Walder Frey.

Thus, she has just created a way for her to take down the Frey family. So, while Arya sighs with relief, we do too. We’ve been by her side through it all, her pain, her suffering, now it’s time for her to get revenge.

It was a nice feeling being in her shoes for a little while, and seeing things in her perspective. We see her eyes watching her guests as they drink the poisoned wine. It’s almost in slow motion as she watches them die, a simple and clean murder.

She saves Joyeuse’s life by subtly not allowing him drink the wine. A nice move.

Last season, Jon Snow was named King in the North, and so this season we want to see how he’s filling those boots. And let’s hope he doesn’t die this season, again.

Jon calls Alys Karstark and Ned Umber forward to renew their vows to his house and they both arrive, not knowing whether they are going to be executed or not.

They act like adults, but they are only teens. Jon isn’t exactly the strongest leader, and often ignores what his followers want. His sense of duty was especially strong in this scene.

On Sunday Jon also announced his first major defense initiative as King in the North: An enormous dragonglass mining effort.

So Cersei has the crown and Euron arrived back on Sunday with his new fleet and plans for an alliance via a marriage proposal. “Here I am with a thousand ships and two good hands,” he said.

Funny.

So to recap.. Game of Thrones returned with a first episode containing all the major characters and set the stage for an epic end game in Westeros.

And Ed Sheeran appears in this episode.

OK I’m done with the spoilers!
