The man who we all thought would never make a commitment, finally did. The actor is reportedly engaged to a beautiful British humanitarian lawyer named Amal Alamuddin.
Sources say that he proposed to Alamuddin after less than a year of dating. That must sting for Stacy Keibler and others on that long list of, “why is she dating him? She knows he’ll never propose.”
36-year-old Alamuddin was seen showing off the huge ring on her left finger as she and Clooney, 52, dined with friends Cindy Crawford and her husband in Malibu.
“George and Amal hoped keep the engagement quiet, but they can’t hide the fact that they are very happy,” a source said.
When contacted for information, neither rep had anything to say about. All Stan Rosenfeild (Clooney’s rep) said was, “I don’t comment on his personal life.” Hmm.
Alamuddin is very well educated and well known in the international community. She studied at Oxford University and the New York University School of Law. She is able to speak three languages (English, French and Arabic) and represented Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. She is now advisor to a former UN Secretary, General Kofi Annan, the special envoy to Syria.
When the two first met and had dinner together in London in 2013, Clooney denied that they were anything more than co-workers on a special project for Syria. It was only made official when he brought her to one of his movie premieres along with his parents.
In December he told Esquire a little bit about his first and only marriage to Talia Balsam (1989-1993). “I haven’t had aspirations in that way, ever. I was married in 1989. I wasn’t very good at it … I was quoted as saying I’ll never get married again pretty much right after I got divorced and then I’ve never talked about it since.”
He also mentioned that he was in no hurry to start a family. “Should I go, ‘I got to get me some kids right now!’ and rush out and impregnate someone? Look, what I do know is that I was raised in a loving, happy family. I don’t have any dislike or distrust of that.”
Amal Alamuddin must be really special to change his mind about everything he thinks about marriage. We wish them the best.
