If you live in New York City, or around the area, and are looking for something fun to do here’s an idea: camp out to get tickets to Saturday Night Live. Find a celebrity host or musical guest that you love, and go for it. That’s what I did last night.
Hosting tonight’s show is funny man Seth Rogen with musical guest Ed Sheeran. I am completely obsessed with Ed Sheeran and so I jumped at the chance to see him perform new songs off his album, “X” or “Multiply” coming out June 23rd, live. I gathered two of my roommates and we made our way to 30 Rockefeller Center Plaza. I actually saw a member of Kiss while roaming around NBC Studios.
The more popular the host or artist, the earlier you should get there…on Friday. Tickets are handed out at 7am on Saturday morning. You will probably be waiting for a while. On 48th street near the plaza, across from the Duane Reade, is where the line begins. We got there at 4pm and there was already a long line of people waiting anxiously.
We set up our things (yoga mats and portable phone chargers) and just waited. The things you see, and smell on the streets of New York City when sat in one spot for a while, will probably never leave your mind but it was still a fun experience. Despite how tired I was, I still needed to get up and walk around every half hour to keep myself awake.
If you’re worried about food, don’t be. There’s a Five Guys, a Chinese restaurant and a Duane Reade all staring at you from across the street. We made friends with those around us, so it wasn’t that bad.
At around 7am a worker for SNL came out and handed us our “tickets” that still do not guarantee admission. We have to go back at 10:30pm tonight to see if our names get called–they might not. We were pretty far back on the line. Even if we don’t make the cut, it was an experience worth remembering.
