Another country couple calls it quits!
Country singer, Jake Own, and his wife, Lacey Buchanan, are ending their marriage after three years. The 33-year-old musician took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to alert his fans of the split.
“I wanted to let my fans know how much I’ve appreciated their love and support of not only my career, but my family as a whole,” the artist said in a statement. “Sadly, Lacey and I have decided to end our marriage. We want to focus on our daughter Pearl and make sure that she has a beautiful life with loving parents. We appreciate you respecting our privacy during this time.”
Owen sent out another tweet, saying, “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. We appreciate your support and privacy in this matter.”
The Vero Beach, Florida native popped the question during a performance in his hometown in April 2012. His decision to ask for Buchanan’s hand was did not include a ring, seeing as it was very spur of the moment.
“When I was onstage, it just hit me how many of our family members and friends were at the show,” Owen said when he reflected on the moment. “So I thought sharing that moment would mean a lot to everyone.”
The two married quietly and welcomed their now 2-year-old daughter in November. The star proudly told People magazine that his wife and daughter were “a great gift,” shortly after Pearl’s birth.
“You can chase the dream all you want, you can make as much money as you want, but if you don’t have anyone to share it with, you’re not quite as far along as you thought,” he said. “I have a lot more substance in my life now.”
The couple’s split, however, doesn’t appear out of nowhere. His devoted fans know that the singer has spoken about marriage difficulties in recent months. The “Real Life” singer opened up about the fact that he and his wife had spoken about divorce before, on America’s Morning Show, in July.
“I didn’t think this was anyone’s business other than mine and my wife’s—but for the last few months, we’ve really been having a hard time, struggling with communication and literally talking about divorce,” he told the talk show. “After long conversations for days and weeks, part of us talking about it and getting it out there and letting people know that we’re the same as they are—we have problems, too—it made us feel better talking about the things we’ve kept from each other.”
