The king of Comedy Central has spoken!
Jon Stewart took some time during last night’s (April 6) Daily Show episode to defend his successor, Trevor Noah.
Noah has been wrapped up in a scandal for the past week, since some old tweets of his have resurfaced. Many have deemed the jokes he made to be too inappropriate and downright offensive.
Stewart made it clear that he supports Noah, and that he’s worth viewers taking a chance on. In typical form, he couldn’t be entirely serious as he spoke.
“I know there was a large kerfuffle on Twitter. But I can say this, I think, without hesitation: Trevor Noah will earn your trust and respect. Or not,” the host said. “Just as I earned your trust and respect. Or did not. Or, sometimes I earned it, and then lost it, and then kind of got it back. But then it was like ‘F**k that guy’ and then it was like, ‘That rally was so stupid, I hate him.'”
“The only thing I would say is, I do hope, you give [Noah] an opportunity to earn that trust and respect, because my experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual. And, man, I think you give him that time and it’s going to be well worth it. I’m excited for where he’s going to take this thing,” he concluded.
Comedy Central has already spoken out for Noah, basically reminding the public that it’s his job as a comedian to “push boundaries.”
Stewart announced in February that he’ll be leaving The Daily Show at the end of the year.
