Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean did very well at this years BET Hip Hop awards, which aired on Tuesday night and was hosted by Snoop Dogg. Both artists took home three awards each. Lamar won Best lyricist, best hip-hop video and Impact Track for his single “Alright.” And Big Sean won best collaboration, best club banger for “IDFWU,” as well as the People’s Champ Award.
Drake who was nominated for a staggering 12 awards came in a close third by taking home two awards, one of which was for “MVP” of the year.
New artist Fatty Wap also made his presents known by winning track of the year for “Trap Queen” and the “Who Blew Up” award.
Scarface who rose to fame in the 1980s with the group Geto Boys was honored with the “I am Hip Hop” award and gave a touching speech about not seeing himself as an icon. His high soon came down to a low when he was arrested and jailed after the ceremony for not paying child support.
There were performances and new songs by Lil Kim and Diddy, King Los and a surprise performance by Kid Ink during Dej Loaf’s set with DJ Mustard and Travis Scott closed the show.
