The NBA is getting tough on their background checks these days. They’re going as far as to screen potential draft pick’s old tweets.
The Los Angeles Laker’s took on the Wyoming Cowboys’ Larry Nance Jr. as their first pick for the 2015 NBA Draft. The Laker’s naming Nance, as their first pick was completely unexpected in the first place. The overall 27th pick draftee was originally expected to be a likely second-round pick until he performed well at pre-draft workouts. Props to Nance for beating the odds!
Apparently, the first order of business in this newfound partnership was to have the 22-year-old draftee delete an old tweet he had written about his soon-to-be teammate, Kobe Bryant.
“Gee I sure hope Kobe can keep his hands to himself in Denver this time.. #rapist,” read the now deleted tweet from 2012.
The 3-year-old tweet was referencing Kobe Bryant’s 2003 sexual assault case in Denver, which had ended with the charges being dropped.
But hey, at least Nance deleted it! As they say, the past is in the past. Hopefully, for the rookie’s sake, Kobe can let this one slide.
