Lamar Odom has been discharged from Las Vegas’ Sunrise Hospital and is officially on his way back to Los Angeles.
Odom, 35, was discovered unconscious at the Love Ranch, a legal Nevada brother, on Oct. 13. He was admitted to Las Vegas’ Sunrise Hospital after suffering what has been described as an overdose on herbal Viagra, alcohol, and cocaine, according to Love Ranch employees.
Lamar spent the next four days in a medically induced coma with his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, by his side the entire time. It was a grueling time but Lamar finally awoke Friday morning and has been getting better ever since.
“Lamar has always been blessed with a tenacious, fighting spirit, overcoming insurmountable obstacles to achieve the impossible. These past few days have been no different,” Lamar’s maternal aunt, JaNean Mercer, told E! News. “He is defying the odds in his toughest battle to date with God’s grace. Each day Lamar is getting stronger and reaching significant milestones in his recovery.”
According to E! News, the former NBA player is “making fast progress” and has regained motor control in his arms and legs, although he is not yet able to stand without assistance. Odom is steadily showing signs of improvement; though he is still on dialysis, he has passed a swallowing test and he is breathing on his own, without an oxygen mask.
“Every day is a little more encouragement, it really has been a miraculous turnaround,” a source told PEOPLE. “From what I understand, he’s not talking. It’s obvious that he understands what is going on because he can nod and shake his head, and he can follow simple commands. He can squeeze the doctor’s hand. He’s still very weak, though.”
Lamar still has a long road to recovery, but we hope that this move to Los Angeles will help him improve even further. Doctors say he will have to undergo extensive physical therapy to learn how to walk and talk again, but we have no doubt the former NBA player can do it!
