Laura Prepon isn’t the red-haired, metal head Donna from That 70s Show anymore. These days, she plays Alex Vause, a woman in prison, on the famous Netflix series, Orange Is the New Black. And recently, she’s had quite a bit to say about her role.
Prepon claims that Catherine Cleary Wolters, the ex-con who inspired the character of Alex, has reached out to her to tell her how much she likes Prepon’s portrayal of her character. When she got the letter as an insert to Wolters’ memoir, Out of Orange, Prepon states that she was “pleasantly surprised” with the real-life inspiration’s words. But Prepon also has quite a bit to say about the upcoming third season of Orange Is the New Black.
In a recent interview, she joked that the cast is “bigger than Boardwalk Empire” at the moment. She might not be too far off. Additions to the already-sizeable cast include Ruby Rose, Mary Steenburgen, and Lori Petty. Plus, this is a big season for Prepon herself. This will be her first as a series regular. Alex Vause made a mere four appearances in the show’s second season, but now, she’s back in prison. Prepon says that her character will be much different than she was in the past.
“Alex is broken,” she comments. Apparently, she doesn’t know why she’s back in prison, but it’s interesting for Prepon to play this side of the character. She teases that there will be sides to Alex revealed that she’s never had to explore before. Not only was that probably interesting for Prepon to play, it will be interesting for viewers and fans to observe. Exciting, isn’t it?
The third season of Orange Is the New Black will be available to stream on Netflix on Friday, June 12.
