Yesterday, Lionsgate unveiled the first images of District 13’s President Coin, played by Julianne Moore. Speaking as a fan of the Hunger Games, IT’S ABOUT TIME!

For fans of the series she is just as you have envisioned. The president of resistance has a solemn expression, severely grey-streaked hair, and her eyes show a well of emotion and experiences, the same as any true leader. Coin is a key figure in Mockingjay, with her immense importance filmmakers had to be careful because Moore’s character is largely made up by the filmmakers themselves. In the novels, we only see President Coin through the untrusting eyes of Katniss Everdeen, our beloved protagonist.

Director Francis Lawrence and Julianne Moore, as a result, had to spend an abundance of time trying to figure out who President Coin really was. Moore references a scene in the story when District 13 is bombed by the Capitol and Coin declines to retaliate.

Moore stated, ““I think that speaks volumes about who she is as a leader, She’s not about to risk revealing herself and her population in a fight when she knows they are better served by lying low and letting it blow over.”

The first images also show that Lionsgate is not hiding the unexpected death of Philip Seymour Hoffman. As fans know, Hoffman played a key role as, Plutarch Heavensbee, in the final two films. One of the images shows Moore seated next to Hoffman.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will hit theaters on November 21, 2014. Check out the video below for more on Moore’s discussion on President Coin.  Also check out http://www.thehungergamesexclusive.com/ for more first images and the truly AMAZING motion poster for the movie.
