Stephen Colbert must feel a little nervous about taking over David Letterman’s place on late night TV. Not like he had his own show before this or anything, right? All sarcasm aside, Colbert is practicing his interviewing skills on – get ready – public access television. He just hosted an episode of Only in Monroe, a talk show that airs in Michigan. Who better to interview than rapper Eminem, who is a Detroit native?
The interview is conducted Colbert-style, which is less serious than most. The host begins by giving Eminem (or Marshall Mathers, whichever you might prefer to call him) a pop quiz about Bob Seger tunes. Seger is also native to Detroit. Next, Colbert asked Eminem to summarize his career in full, which is a question more complex than, “Mr. Mathers, what is the meaning of life?”
And then came the most Colbert-style question of them all.
“Are you one of the slow talking rappers?” the Grammy-winning comedian inquired. “Or one of the fast talking rappers?” Classic.
You can watch the video here. The interview with Eminem begins at around the 22:00 minute marker.
