Actors Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgard, singer Taylor Swift, and Odeya Rush are starring in this summer’s upcoming movie release of “The Giver”.
The film is based on the award winning book, The Giver, written by Lois Lowry. It takes place in a future where all of the unpleasant, messy aspects of life, such as war, pain, difference, and feelings in general have been wiped away. Although in the book, the concept of color is not present, the producer Jeff Bridges, felt the film should be in color not black and white. He hopes that this will attract a younger audience.Bridges and Lowry are starring in the film as well.
The main character, Jonas, is played by Brenton Thwaites. Alexander Skarsgard and Katie Holmes play Jonas’s parents, Meryl Streep is the community ” villain” Chief Elder, Odeya Rush is his love interest, Fiona, and Taylor Swift is Rosemary, who was chosen to become the new Receiver before Jonas.
Bridges stated that “The Giver is about a boy who is chosen to become the community’s new Receiver of Memory. He is the only person who can recall what life was like before Sameness descended. As Jonas begins his training under The Giver, played by Bridges, he realizes everything his people lost when they elected to soften the world’s hard edges. Jonas decides to take drastic action to change things for good”.
