Funny lady Mindy Kaling always has a lot to say, and we’re glad of that. Recently, she’s been talking about the new, Disney Pixar movie, Inside Out. Kaling has a voice-over role in the film as the emotion, Disgust. The movie is all about the emotions inside 11-year-old Riley’s head and how they become all jumbled when her family moves from Minnesota to San Francisco. Kaling reveals that Riley’s head is filled with islands of her interests, like family, friends, and her favorite sports. This got Kaling thinking of what her “islands” might be.
“Definitely fashion island,” she remarked in a recent interview with Sandy Cohen. She also included friendship island, 4 PM snack island, and “mid-30s panic island.” There are good islands and bad islands in Kaling’s head, which sounds like all of us. We’re so excited for this movie to finally come out!
The entertainer also discussed her TV series, The Mindy Project. The show debuted in 2012, and Fox let it go earlier this year. Almost immediately, however, it was picked up for a twenty-six episode fourth season by Hulu. Apparently, the episodes will be released weekly rather than all at once, which gives Kaling and her team a little more time to explore new, creative endeavors.
One thing you probably won’t see in the Hulu series? Racy content. Before, Kaling said if The Mindy Project was broadcast anywhere but network television, it would be a lot more adult. These days, she’s changed her tune. The show has aired on Fox for three seasons already, and girls in their early teens have fallen in love with it. Kaling doesn’t wish to alienate them by showing them what they don’t want to see or aren’t yet ready to see. Plus, the show was already pretty racy for network television. Check out the season three episode, “I Slipped,” for proof.
Inside Out premieres in theaters all around the United States on June 19. Look for The Mindy Project on Hulu soon!
