Lacey Halsworth, also known as Princess Lacey lost her battle with cancer late last night. She was also a fan and friend of Michigan State forward Adreian Payne.
Princess Lacey died early this morning at home in the arms of her mom and dad. Her family, the MSU team and fans of Lacey mourn the loss of their favorite Princess.
Lacey met the college basketball star about 2 years ago during one of her many hospital stays from the disease. The team went to visit her at Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital where the friendship between the two had started. Lacey went through treatment that helped to remove the disease then, but later found out that the disease came back again, and quickly got worse later that same year.
Aside from being a major fan, she was a good friend of Payne, and he even mentions her as his little sister. Lacey even calls him big brother. She has made appearances on “The Today Show” and “Good Morning America“. Lacey assisted Payne in cutting down the nets after MSU won the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. She also cheered for Payne during the Slam Dunk contest in Texas just last week.
At approximately 3 am today, Lacey’s family announced the death to her fans with a very special goodbye note via Instagram: “Princess Lacey has achieved the ultimate victory. She now dances among angels…. The world is a better place because you were in it. Our hearts are broken. We love you Doll. Dance all night… Mommy and Daddy, Will, Mitchell and Luke #LoveLikeLacey”.
