On Saturday July 9, 2016, the only place to be is Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. On that night, SJ Entertainment proudly presents one of the first boy bands in the game and the best to ever do it, the amazing New Edition. Also gracing the stage is 11-time Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter, musician and producer, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. Without question, this will be the hottest concert of the summer.
Formed in Boston, Massachusetts in the 1980s, New Edition paved the way for many of music’s most successful boy bands. The original roster included Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, Michael Bivins and Ricky Bell. The group’s debut album, “Candy Girl” was a megahit and catapulted them to immediate superstardom. Its first single of the same name was reminiscent of The Jackson Five and the group was automatically compared to Michael Jackson and his brothers. However, New Edition was able to showcase its individuality with the follow-up hits“Mr. Telephone Man”, “Cool It Now”, “Is This the End” and numerous other favorites. In 1985, Johnny Gill joined the group replacing Bobby Brown who left to pursue a solo career. The group continued its string of successful albums which earned them American Music Awards, Soul Train Music Awards and other accolades such as a Grammy nomination. From the New Edition family, other successful groups such as Bell Biv Devoe and Heads of State were formed adding new dimensions and depth to this musical dynasty. Their performance will be like having three groups in one and is expected to blow the roof off the building.
Headlining this exciting evening is Mr. Whip Appeal himself, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, as the fifth of six brothers including Melvin and Kevon of After 7 fame, Kenneth began writing songs at a very young age. Early in his career, he played with the legendary Bootsy Collins who gave him his stage name “Babyface” because of his youthful appearance. Babyface went on to perform with R&B groups such as The Deele where he met his future writing and producing partner, Antonio “L.A.” Reid. While penning over 26 number one hits for the likes of Whitney Houston, New Edition, Bobby Brown, Toni Braxton and countless others, Babyface embarked on a solo career which has garnered him a multitude of awards including 11 Grammys. Saturday night will undoubtedly feature some of his most famous hits such as “For the Cool in You”, “Every Time I Close My Eyes”, “Soon As I Get Home”, “Sunshine”, “Never Keeping Secrets” and, of course,“Whip Appeal”. The electricity on Saturday night may just blow a fuse in Barclays and we at THZ can’t wait to experience it.
It all goes down at 8:00 PM and doesn’t get any better than this. Hot Zoners, you DO NOT want to miss this concert. The music will be incredible and the performances out of this world. So get out there and purchase your tickets at ticketmaster.com NOW!!!!
