It looks like the rumors are true! BBC Radio 1 Host Nick Grimshaw and “R.I.P.” Singer Rita Ora will be joining the judge’s panel for the X-Factor UK.
The two will join previous judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (of the British-Irish girl group Girls Aloud) and Simon Cowell (the show’s creator).
When asked about joining the show, Rita Ora recalled her previous experience as a guest judge back in 2012. She said, “I had a ball here…This is a journey I can’t wait to embark on to find some talented singers.”
Grimshaw expressed his delight at the new position when he mentioned his well-known obsession with the talent-searching show. He said, “Music is my job and my passion and I’m really looking forward to seeing what talent we can find and nurture this year,” before expressing his particular excitement for the “Judge’s House” segment of the show.
There has been talk of Grimshaw coming in to take the place of previous judge Louis Walsh for quite some time, and many believe that he will provide a fresh perspective as a Radio DJ who is passionate about what’s new in music.
Many people are worried about these large personalities constantly clashing. Even though that may make the show more interesting, sometimes it can distract from the point of the program: finding and fostering new artists.
Cowell addressed this when he recently said, “I have a feeling I am in for a bit of a rough time but sometimes you have to embrace the craziness and now, with luck, we hope to find a star.”
However, overall, Cowell seems very excited for the new judges, explaining, “The combination of Nick, Cheryl and Rita is going to be a lot of fun! The all bring a lot of enthusiasm and passion for music to the show.”
The UK television show returns in the Fall, and many fans (across the pond and here in the states) will watch to see how the new judges do. After all, the X-Factor UK is the show that brought us huge names like Leona Lewis, Little Mix and One Direction!
