Nike is the latest brand to drop Adrian Peterson from their sponsorship.
After Adrian Peterson accepted a plea deal which would have him avoid jail time, Nike has announced that Peterson’s endorsement deal with Nike has been terminated. In a statement made by Mashable, Nike stated:”Adrian Peterson is no longer a Nike athlete.” Nike has not given any other statement after that.
Peterson, who admits that he hit his son with a wooden switch says that that’s how he was raised growing up and didn’t consider that abuse. The plea deal Peterson agreed to on Tuesday had him cop to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault, but avoid initial charges of felony child abuse. He will pay a $4,000 fine and serve 80 hours of community service, but won’t go to jail.
Peterson is expected to miss the entire NFL season. Before the incident, Peterson was considered to be one of the best running backs in the league for the Minnesota Vikings.
