It was a tough night for NYFC fans as they saw their beloved team lose a tough one.

A crowd of 21,891 were on hand to witness the New York City Football Club lose to the Portland Timbers by the final score of 1-0. Maybe they are waiting on the arrival of Frank Lampard who is scheduled to make his debut in the summer.

This current team is really mediocre to say it best. Superstar player David Villa  did not play in NYCFC’s nationally televised game because of a strained hamstring. He was subbed off before the start of the second half during Thursday’s draw against Philadelphia with the injury and didn’t practice on Saturday. Villa missed NYCFC’s March 28 home loss to Sporting Kansas City with a groin injury.

NYCFC was also without Mix Diskerud, who picked up an ankle injury during Saturday’s practice. He missed Thursday’s game after playing 80 minutes for the U.S. Wednesday in its 2-0 win over Mexico. The injury is considered minor.

The game has been tight throughout until Dairon Asprilla of Portland Timbers scored the only goal of the match in the 79th minute.

NYCFC (1-3-3, six points) is now winless in its last five games and has lost two of its four home games.

Frank Lampard can’t come soon enough! They need him.
