John Green’s book adaptation by Paramount Pictures of “Looking for Alaska” will be filmed in Michigan this fall.
The state’s Film Office says that the project is eligible to receive an incentive of more than $7 million based on projected spending of over $21 million, with two-thirds of the project’s spending for state residents and Michigan-based vendors.
Michigan residents are also expected to fill in for 200 of the cast and crew hires, and about 1,700 locals are expected to be extras.
Specific shooting locations in Michigan will be known in upcoming weeks.
Michigan is a state renowned for its nature and beautiful green setting. However, John Green’s “Looking For Alaska” is set in Alabama, a much warmer and less naturalistic setting than Michigan. For this reason, we are curious to see why the movie directors and producers chose Michigan for filming. Maybe that is one of the many disparities between the book and the movie.
Nonetheless, we can hardly wait to see the adaptation of the book on the big screen!
