If you are not familiar with the Pete Rose story, then let me refresh your memory on why he has been a longshot to make the Hall of Fame for some time now. Pete Rose, MLB’s career leader in hits was permanently placed on MLB’s ineligible list for betting on baseball. But lately, there has been talk of possibly lifting the ban that has reached 25 years.
Rose talked to CBS’s Lee Cowan and said, “I don’t know if I’m going to live to see it. Someone, at some period of time, will feel it in their heart to give me a second chance. I might be six feet under, but that’s what you have to live with.”
Cowan also asked Rose why he risked everything to bet on baseball. Rose said, “That’s a good question. I can’t answer it. I wish I had an answer. I usually got an answer for everything. I just simply… the best way to say it is, I screwed up.” Clearly Rose is remorseful for his actions and believes he should be reconsidered for the coveted Hall of Fame.
Do you think Rose should be reinstated?
