TMZ broke the news last week after Mavado and his family dined in at Philipe Chow in New York City. The artist claims his family was bombarded with racism from the restaurant’s staff. When Mavado and his family arrived to the restaurant, they were rushed to the back, told not to take any pictures, leaving the family to feel abused by the staff. Mavado believes he was treated like crap because of his skin color.
This week the restaurant has responded to Mavado’s claims saying “Philipe Restaurant is proud to have an excellent relationship with all our customers, especially the black community and people of color.” The entry also states “on a weekly basis we have famous and non-famous black people…”
The restaurant apologized if the wrong impression was left on Mavado.
It is good to hear the restaurant acknowledged the accusations. Maybe next time Mavado can eat on the house to make up for his rough experience.
