A woman is found dead and a police officer is seriously injured after a shooting in University City Monday night.
University City Police Department says officers responded to a call of a burgulry in progress around 10pm. The caller said a man climbed through a bedroom window and started shooting. When officers arrived at the scene they found a woman with a gunshot wound to her leg. She was taken to a hospital to receive medical attention, but unfortunately she died. One officer was shot in the chest. The suspect was last seen running east toward Midland Avenue. His identity is unknown at this time. Officers described him as being in his early 30s with long dreadlocks, medium build, and light complexion. The injured officer is in stable condition. He is a 5 year veteran of the University Police Department.
This incident is unrelated to the riots in Ferguson and other areas, following the announcement Monday night that Darren Wilson will not be charged for the death of Michael Brown.
